How can you not smile when you look at these pictures?
My friend Karen was diagnosed in February 2021 with Stage IV. Here she is enjoying a hike on the Oregon coast.
This selfie of my friend Donna was taken on the island of St. Thomas. Donna was diagnosed with Stage IV in February 2018. “I'm living life and trying to travel as much as possible while thriving with lung cancer.”
Stephanie, who is from Seville, Spain, was diagnosed in 2016 at the age of 35, and currently her cancer is Stage IV. Here she is in Cuba with her husband. She says that “lung cancer is everywhere and smoke is not always the cause, that stigma has to disappear, nobody deserves cancer anyway.”
Randi was diagnosed with Stage IV in August of 2021, and shortly thereafter had a lobe of her lungs removed. Here she is one year later, having just climbed a 14,000 foot mountain peak (s0l0) in Colorado. She calls it an “easy walk-up” in between rounds of chemo! She plans to ski 75 to 100 days this winter. Did I mention that she is 70 years old?
Jean has Stage IV lung cancer and was diagnosed in 2015.
Carol says her happy place is wherever she is at the moment. She was diagnosed in January 2022, and her cancer is Stage IV.
Susan was diagnosed in June of 2021 with Stage IIIa, but that didn’t stop her from attending the national marksmanship championships in July of this year in Indiana.
This is Carol, who was diagnosed with Stage IV in 2019. “This picture represents the life I love – my wonderful husband of almost 50 years, walking along the water in my community and getting exercise, and supporting lung cancer research so we all benefit from improved from improved screening, diagnosis, treatment, and someday even a cure.”
The beautiful sunset radiates almost as much as Jennifer’s smile. She was diagnosed as Stage IV at the age of 48.
This is my freind Helen on her way to a fancy political fundraiser. Being involved in politics is one of the forces that enriches her life. She was diagnosed in November 2018 and has Stage IV lung cancer.
Toni was diagnosed with Stage IV in 2018, and hasn’t lost her smile.
Stacylee was diagnosed with Stage IV in October of 2020 at the age of 48. She says she’s living her best life each and every day.
Nina, a proud mom and grandma, was diagnosed with Stage IV in 2021.
Kerry was diagnosed in November of 2021 with Stage IV lung cancer.
Joseph was diagnosed with Stage IV on New Years Eve 2020. This is one of his favorite hikes near his home in Chula Vista, CA. “I have been walking 5.25 miles every Sunday for the past 23 months. During Chemo I could only walk 1-2 miles, but I’ve stayed consistent and having this walk motivates me to get out and exercise to keep my body strong for the fight.”
Dave is an avid cycler, seen here near Edmonton, Canada. He was diagnosed in May 2019. An overachiver by nature, he says “I decided to skip the first three stages and get right to stage four.”
My friend Dawn has been an amazing advocate for lung cancer awareness since her journey began with Stage IV in 2014. Here she is holding one of the 96 White Ribbons we made at her house this spring (2022). She has been through four clinical trials, and is hoping to start her fifth any day now.
This is Maggie at the Minnesota State Fair. She was diagnosed with Stage IV in September 2021.
Denise was diagnosed with Stage IV in 2019.
Here’s Deborah, who was diagnosed February 10, 2020 with Stage II. While some people wear their heart on their sleeves, Deborah is more direct!
Kristi was 49 when she was diagnosed in March 2020 with Stage IIIa, and she is now Stage IV. “This photo was taken last month on my son’s 18th birthday, I’m on the left, along with my son, daughter and parents.”
